Blue Dock
4'x4'
122 pieces of blue Styrofoam dock were collected for this piece. Blown in from the water, the dock foam breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces that speckle the beach grass like beautiful bright aquamarine gems- but they are not minerals, they are one of the most chemical forms of plastic that are breaking down into smaller and smaller pieces of microplastics.
While I despise the broken up, degraded. eroded pieces of styrofoam dock on the beach, each piece has a certain beauty when it ceases to be litter. Their color is so vibrant and also soothing when off set against the white background. They are mounted on screws to further distinguish them from the background and to create shadows as the light changes.
