Knot Work

3' x 3'
Each these 81 knots was collected on the beach, either cut away from mass tangles of fishing rope beached and tangled on the shore and in rock crevices or from knot cuts. Knot cuts are the result of sections of fishing rope that are regularly cut away for ease and then tossed into the ocean instead of being disposed of properly. thousands of knot cuts litter the beach.

The knots and rope once cleaned and trimmed are actually quite beautiful. They are mounted on screws, raised above the surface of the chipboard base which I have painted with a mix of plaster and white acrylic- both leftover from construction jobs.
